I’m Donna — and The Makery is a little dream that’s come to life here at Great Ashley House. When I moved here two years ago with my husband and our young daughter, I imagined creating a warm, welcoming space where people could come together to create, craft, and connect.
And now the doors are open and I look forward to welcoming you in.
My Story
I’ve never thought of myself as especially creative, but I’ve always loved learning new crafts. From sewing cushion covers, curtains and blinds to up-cycling furniture, wallpapering and decorating, I am truly a jack of all trades but my true passion, what I am drawn to, are fibre arts — weaving, macramé, and lately, crochet.
There’s something about the rhythm, the ebb and flow, the repetition, that feels calming and grounding, like a quiet pause in a busy day, a reminder to slow down, breathe, and just be.

The Makery grew from that feeling. It’s a space to gather, to learn, and to find joy in the process of making — whether that’s through workshops, cosy craft evenings, or a quiet tea with yarn and good company. It’s about connection — to craft, to nature, and to one another.
As the seasons change, we celebrate with special workshops — I shall be your host and guide for some of the Meet Ups and Workshops and others I will invite a local artisan or professional to lead. I look forward to welcoming you.
